Biography

I am a sailor of complexity, a pilgrim passing through the world, a scout by heart who aspires to leave things a little better than how he found them.

I want to share with you how I have been formed, my experience and learnings. If you continue reading, you will find a brief sketch of my professional career so far.

My vocation for psychology arose many years ago when I was in high school. In the small library we had at Franco Mexicana there were some texts by Freud, Jung and Skinner from whose pages I drew inspiration. But as every path of development was not a straight line, I had to go round and round, up and down to get perspective. That's why when I started studying at university I didn't do it in psychology but in Electronic Systems (I am also a programmer technician, by the way). I needed good advice and the example of good teachers to get back on track and, in 1992, I started a degree in Organizational Psychology at the Tec de Monterrey (Campus Estado de México). I graduated at the end of 1996 with honors and started my career at Cordaflex (Grupo Condumex) in the city of Queretaro. However, in 1998 a great friend and consultant, Dr. Vicente Fregoso, invited me to a project with the Cardenas family in Michoacan where I was able, as Personnel Manager and internal consultant, to design the department and accompany the organizational transformation of the companies of the International CAOR Group for more than four years.

In 2001 I started my first project as an independent consultant until 2003 when I joined Bearing Point (KPMG), in Change Management in a multicultural team for Pemex.

In 2004 I finished my Master's Degree in Organizational Development along with the 24th generation. For my thesis I went to the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, CA to study with Dr. Watzlawick's team the techniques of Brief Therapy and generate a model of brief change in organizations. After working for some years at John Crane and Panasonic, in 2006 I joined Boehringer Ingelheim Mexico. In this great company, where I started as HR Business Partner and, for the first time, I had the opportunity to work internationally with the teams of medical representatives in Central America and the Caribbean.

A few years later, as Learning and Development Manager, I was able to expand my scope of work by adding Argentina and Brazil. With all these countries I was able to design a management learning and development model that, based on a practical model and supported by coaching, managed to positively move the needle of employee engagement for the first time in many years.

During this time I was certified as a Transformational Coach with Thomas Crane and Vitae Consultores, in Change Management with PROSCI and I survived Reddin's 3D (whoever has done it, will understand me).

In 2012 the Publicis Group invited me to collaborate with them as Human Resources Director for Latin America. With Publicis I was able to accompany and facilitate multiple organizational changes such as acquisitions, mergers, launching new agencies and services, opening operations and also closing offices. At Publicis I redesigned and implemented a new talent management model based on the employee journey from recruitment and selection, talent development (calibration, development and succession plans), retention (Comp&Ben) and legal aspects of the employment relationship.

In the summer of 2018 I participated in the Leicester Conference with the Tavistok Institute from the UK. A great life experience where we were able to study the psychodynamic forces of the group and their vital impact on the success or failure of projects and organizational change. Here I learned in depth that understanding and managing the feelings, tensions and other dynamics that arise in group work situations is essential to being effective as leaders and followers. Studying boundaries, goals and organization is a task that requires almost artistic work as the helmsmen of our lives.

Later that year, I joined Havas Group as Director of Human Resources for Latin America. I was in charge of leading the WorkDay parameterization and roll-out process in the region to connect countries and talents, integrate an HR team to support operations and drive the transformation and strategy in the 8 countries that make up this region.

This year, after closing my relationship with Havas Group, I decided to resume my consulting project and expand my portfolio of services to support organizations in this period of pandemic and beyond. I started a master's degree with the Institut Mensalus of Barcelona, endorsed by the Nebrija University of Madrid in Integrative Psychotherapy. I like to be in constant training.

If you have had the patience to come this far, I really appreciate it. I only have to add that I am passionate about writing, hiking in the mountains, enjoying time with my kids and drinking coffee while listening meaningful music. I hope that someday you can share your story with me and that, if we meet, I can be a support for you on your path to development.

Francisco Monterrubio S.M.
